Is Our US Government Too Big?

When the states got together and formed a Federal Government they empowered it with very specific, enumerated powers defined in our Constitution. It was not designed as a top down government, but a bottom up government with the power coming from We the People. When did this change, and why do we allow it?

Here is a link to a website showing an A-Z Index of U.S. Government Departments and Agencies. Browse through the list and see how many you would do away with if you had the choice. How many of these agencies are even Constitutional? How many of these would be more appropriate and more successful if implemented at a state level? Where in the Constitution does it empower the Federal Government to establish a Department of Education? Did the Constitution give them the power to establish a Housing and Urban Development Department? What about the Transportation Security Administration?

So, where exactly is the line that determines what the Federal Government can and cannot do? And how can we stop their tyrannical power grab? Did you know the Utah’s state legislature defined where the line is during the 2011 legislative session? They defined where the "constitutional line" is. They did it by statute and they formalized a mechanism to monitor the line and challenge the federal government every time it crosses the line.
